We are a family of three (Wendy, Mauricio and Melina - Age 9), living in the suburbs of Washington DC (Vienna, VA) and getting our financial life in order! We earn a solid multi-6 figure income but in the past, we have struggled to pay for unexpected expenses and emergencies. We truly lived paycheck to paycheck even though we had a positive overall net worth because of our retirement savings.
In 2016 everything changed. We decided to get out financial act together and since that time we have gotten 1 full month ahead in our income (which means what we earn this month goes to pay next month's bills), paid off well over $200,000 worth of debt, started planning ahead and saving for big financial expenses (like summer camp, a new car, a down payment on a house to name just a few) and we are even paying CASH for my Mauricio's graduate school (he's changing careers and becoming an architect!).
We believe that there is no one size fits all plan for being successful with money so we are creating our own path. It is our theory that every family should evaluate their own financial struggles and determine the root cause of those issues. For us, those issues stemmed from committing to giving without looking at the impact on our own financial situation. We did not have debt because we bought fancy cars or clothes, we had debt because we chose to give away hundreds of thousands of dollars before we actually earned it. Now when we give, we give with cash that we have saved for the sole purpose of giving.
We understand the shame and guilt of having such a large income and not having enough cash to pay for an emergency...like when the transmission on the car goes out or there are large medical expenses. We have developed a plan that works for us and we are so proud of how far we have come since 2016!

    Concerning giving, or tithing, or prosperity, Malachi 3:8-12 is, indeed, not the full counsel of God. It is an excerpt, quoted to the church for centuries (believe it or not), which is a misrepresentation of God's counsel. We've accepted it because that's what we have always been taught. Here are a few points to consider. -- Who did God appoint to receive tithes? God said, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth [the tithe] in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation (Numbers 18:21-23). In this scripture, God established who receives the tithe (the Levites), and why they received it (they received no inheritance, and they served in the temple). This assignment is exclusive to Levites. A pastor cannot assume this assignment, he has never been scripturally assigned by God to collect tithes, he is not a Levite. In that same sense, only a Levite, never a pastor, could ever serve in a Jewish temple. The church has not replaced the Jewish temple, and pastors have not replaced Levites. -- People are blessed when they give, not because of Malachi 3, which is based on the Law of Moses, an Old Testament law that has been replaced by Grace under Christ, at the cross. They are blessed because Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). It is this principle of giving and receiving at work, when we give and are blessed. Not the expired law of tithing, which was required of the Jews (never Gentiles), and could only be received by Levite priests because they received no inheritance and were set apart to work fully in the Jewish temple. -- There is much more to this, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the scriptures that speak to these issues. To be clear, every pastor has a right to collect offerings in support of the ministry; I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures. Four biblical truths, regarding tithing: (1) There is no scripture that authorizes anyone but a Levite to receive tithes. (2) There is no scripture that authorizes a pastor to receive tithes. (3) There is no scripture that requires a Gentile to tithe. (4) There is no scripture that requires the church to tithe. If you're interested in learning more, check out "Tither, You Are Free!", available on Amazon. Blessings to you and your ministry!

    Have an annual salary/earnings below $30K, claim 0 (Zero). Earn above $50K claim 1 (One) and invest the extra cash or place in bank for very little interest but it is better than the Government collecting interest on your own money. If always strapped for cash and earn above $50K claim 1 but be prepared to pay the IRS for not withholding enough taxes. If you earn more than $100K per year, claim 1 or 2, maybe 3 and surely invest the extra money as it could be possible you come out on top/ahead, however be prepared to pay the IRS. For the lucky people who have children under the age of 18 or if in college age 23 or less you get Earned Income Credit so smile on a nice refund or not having to pay the IRS much. Remember to live within your means, avoid debt, avoid High Interest Rates, invest when possible, do not co-sign or borrow money from family and friends, get rid of bad habits or expensive hobbies you cannot afford, always pay yourself first, work harder. Grow a vegetable garden, go hunting and fishing, feed the family, spend family time as go camping enjoy the outdoors and explore the world. You really do not have to go far and spend money unwisely. Anyways, the more money you earn or acquire, bank it or invest, do not spend. Finally, if you are unable to manage your own spending habits, Claim 0.

    I want to do an accent wall in my daughters' room. One's favorite color is blue and the other one's is pink, they both like purple. I thought it would look nice to do a pink to blue horizontal ombre in the wall behind their beds, with purple. Would that look bad?

    • @Yohannai
      @Yohannai 8 місяців тому

      So long as you make sure both colours have the same values and saturation, it would probably look nice! By values I mean, having both be the same shade of dark/white. By saturation I mean how intense the colour is. If you go from something like a pale pink to a very solid blue, you might feel like there is too much visual weight on the wall that has the blue side. Vertical is easier accidentally make the room feel unbalanced, but if you balance it, it should be fine! If you want to test it out and you don't have access to digital software, you can take a photo of the room with the wall in it (make sure to include some other things from the room, such as beds, etc.), print it on paper, and draw over the wall with coloured pencils that are about the same colours you want. You can look up pencil blending techniques, and make your own blend on the image. It should serve as a pretty good visual representation of what you want to test out, and then you can choose if that's something you want or not (and ask your daughter her opinion!) I made my tests digitally straight from a photo I took, but the concept is the same :)

    This has been a year and a half battle. My son started at 3 years old 9/11 for speech. He was delayed and was swept up in my townships speech/pre-pre k program. They bussed him and everything. Last year when he was 4 my wife and me kept him home due to masks almost all year until March. And this year in kindergarden he is so behind and they keep wanting to advance him with their iep program. I do t think a child that started off delayed, is 2 weeks away from being the oldest child in the following year, as well as many other factors, should be forced into first grade. My wife is finallllllllyyyyy on board after our last zoom meeting a few days ago with 5 of the people that work with him. All diffrent titles. And my sisters friend I’ve known since I was 10 is helping me to navigate the holding him back process because I’m sure starting Monday it will be since we’re supposed to sign off on his 1st grade plan. Wish me luck

    This was really helpful. I have used the free version of every dollar (& other budgeting apps like Mint) and unfortunately was not able to ever stick with any. I was always hesitant to pay for YNAB as a result. I am on the free trial on YNAB and it has a lot more features than I anticipated.. I’ve been watching a ton of YNABs UA-cam videos and so far am really loving it. I think really it’s required for people to understand how it works. I like how I can see what my total credit card payment will be in real time. How it auto syncs up. How I can only categorize $ I actually have, but I can still set annual or monthly savings targets that do the math for me. Or that I can reprioritize funds based off Life.

    Great video! I would like to paint my home office a purple ombre. My master bedroom is painted a dark purple and my bathroom is painted light purple. My home office is in between these two rooms so I thought it would be cool to have the dark purple on the bottom of the walls and then work up to the light purple at the top of the wall. I think it will look really cool.

    My SD started showing up right after I had to return to work during the pandemic and I thought I had vocal nodes from having to extra raise my voice to teach my class. Found out it was SD after being referred to a vocal specialist. I find it extremely frustrating to deal with given my profession is teaching elementary age students and the ability to talk, communicate and enunciate clearly are crucial. I had my first set of Botox injections in September and one side literally bent the doctor’s needle because she couldn’t get through the cartilage. Felt like I was being choked as she continuously restabbed to try to get the needle through. The effects didn’t fully work because of the low dose either. But the SD started getting really bad again recently so I went in again and it was much easier. But I’m on day 6 and haven’t been able to speak very well for the last 4 days because of the “breathy phase.” Also have trouble swallowing liquids without choking. Hoping that it lasts longer this time so I can justify this being worth it
